Week 1: Busting Harmful Med Student Myths
As a health professional in training and on the job, nothing is more important than your well-being. After all, how can you take care of others if you aren’t taking care of yourself? The truth is, burnout isn’t just a product of being too busy. It also involves the stories we tell ourselves and hear from our field about what must be done, what you should or shouldn’t feel, and what it means to be a “real” health professional.
Some of these stories are harmful and only serve to make health professionals more stressed out, less capable of understanding peers and patients, and less efficient at working with their team and doing their job.
That’s why, this month, we’re going to explore a few of the most pernicious medical profession myths to make room for happier, healthier, and more sustainable professional practices.
