Our Story
The Idea
Hello! I’m Tasha. I started WIRL because I knew, if I needed it, millions of other health professionals would too. It all started with a severe episode of burnout. Healthcare workers know the story: the long and unpredictable hours, the emotionally intense work, the vanishing personal life...
Whenever I got home, I hardly had enough time to rest, let alone be with my family. The work took its toll, and in the throes of burnout, I realized how wonderful it would be to sit down and talk to other health professionals who get it — to figure out how we can do the work we love and still lead full and enriching personal lives.
So, I started a community of health professionals who gathered in workshopsto make friends, find wellness, and support each other. WIRL quickly expanded with an exclusive discounted wellness marketplace filled with businesses that are grateful for what our members do.
The Community
And then, it happened. The already urgent problem of healthcare worker burnout hit a fever pitch during the pandemic. We knew the hours would get longer, the schedules less predictable, the work emotionally devastating...
It had never been more important to lend a hand to our frontline workers. And thankfully, our community agreed. In no time, the WIRL team found kindred spirits in nearby universities. UNC Chapel Hill. UNC Charlotte. Elon University. East Carolina University. Campbell University. Duke.
They put their famous rivalries aside and lent us their wisdom, their students, and their resources so we could help as many health professionals as possible
The Future
WIRL started with an episode of burnout and grew when a community came together to help its own. We hope you’ll be part of our next chapter so all health professionals can enjoy wellness in real life.
Core Values
Compassion
We understand the plight of health professionals and believe they deserve just as much care as they give every day.
Community
WIRL was made possible by the people and institutions around us. Our goal is to give back to our community by helping the helpers.
